The glass bridge over the famous pine forest in Indonesia unexpectedly broke, resulting in the death of one tourist and injuries to three others.
According to Daily Mail, the incident occurred when 11 tourists from Cilacap district (Central Java, Indonesia) crossed the Geong glass bridge around 10 a.m. on October 25th.The section of glass in the middle of the bridge broke, causing two people to fall into the Limpakuwus pine forest from a height of 10 meters. One of the two later died, while the other sustained minor injuries.
Two other individuals also nearly fell when the glass suddenly cracked. They struggled to hold onto the railings, with others rushing to assist them.
The Straits Times reported that Sunarto, one of the workers present at the scene, heard the sound of breaking glass around 10 a.m.
The police are investigating the incident and have cordoned off the area amid allegations that the management of the tourist site ignored complaints about the safety of the bridge.
Ekop Purnomo, President of the Limpakuwus Pine Forest Cooperative, contacted the glass bridge management back in April when the bridge opened to request a safety assessment.
Purnomo stated that up to 5% of tourists had complained on social media about the quality of the bridge. However, the manager did not attend the meeting to review standards and sent a representative instead.
Local police requested the closure of the pine forest, which is managed separately from the glass bridge, to facilitate the investigation.

In 2021, a tourist survived after the glass panels of a 100-meter-high bridge on Mount Piyan (Long City, China) were damaged due to strong winds.
Scary images showed a man clinging to the railing after strong gusts blew away some glass panels.
The victim was trapped on the bridge for a short time before crawling to safety under the guidance of firefighters, police, forestry staff, and tourism officials.
