The night tour opens new directions for cultural experience tourism in Hanoi.

Night tours exploring Hanoi are being deployed by many tourist destinations. However, there are still many challenges for night tours to have a more sustainable life and to spread more strongly.

Night tours offer an interesting and different experience compared to daytime tourism. Especially in places with monumental architecture or rich culture, night tours provide tourists with unique discoveries, touching many senses and emotions.
Developing cultural and experiential night tours is being expanded in Hanoi. To date, some locations organizing night tours include Hoa Lo Prison, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and the Vietnam Literature Museum…
Specifically, the “Sacred Night” tour at Hoa Lo Prison launched in June 2020, creating a trend among the youth in recent years. The heritage site chooses to perform theatrical reenactments of history, integrating music into the narration, with the highlight being the specialty of "bánh bàng" and "trà bàng," which are served only during the night tour at Hoa Lo.
Meanwhile, the night literary tour “Chữ Tâm Chữ Tài” at the Vietnam Literature Museum also chooses the form of drama to reenact excerpts from the short story “Chí Phèo,” adding a part to listen to songs adapted from poetry, culminating the journey with a script deciphering game.

The night tour “Decoding Thang Long Imperial Citadel” lasts about 1.5 hours on weekend evenings. During the tour, tourists not only admire the historically rich royal space, under sparkling, mystical lights but also experience interesting and engaging activities.
The tour itinerary takes visitors to the Thang Long – Hanoi artifact exhibition hall. Here, tourists will learn and listen to the narration about artifacts, architecture, and palace decorations through different historical periods...
Most recently, the night tour at the Temple of Literature - National University officially welcomes guests from early November. The program applies 3D Mapping technology, utilizing the exhibition area to recount the story of the history of Confucianism.

Sharing about the trend of developing night tours, writer Nguyễn Trương Quý believes that nighttime can put a different layer on the landscape, with people. Nighttime functions to recreate feelings when people seek entertainment and relaxation.
“Night tourism can both utilize existing cultural spaces to satisfy that need and promote the economic potential and capacity of service providers, allowing city areas to gain more vitality and reduce the waste of community space,” he analyzed.
However, according to the writer, not all locations can develop night tours. The program must be connected to the function of that space, with the management capacity of the space and the actual needs of tourists.
“The successful night tours today are in spaces confined within a certain area, without causing noise pollution or disrupting the normal activities of residents. If creating night tours in more open areas like streets, where daily activities overlap, great care must be taken in implementation,” writer Nguyễn Trương Quý shared.
Meanwhile, from the perspective of those directly involved in hosting night tours at the Vietnam Literature Museum, Dr. Đỗ Thị Thanh Nga (Institute of Literature) believes: “The difficulty of developing night tours lies in the workforce participating in the operation of the tour. For example, actors participating in the night tour's skits are students, who can only collaborate for a short time.”
Another difficulty is the challenge in innovating and creating how current or future tours can attract and meet the needs of tourists while effectively utilizing the available artifacts and the museum space.
