According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7 AM today (October 19), Typhoon No. 5 was located over the eastern sea of the Gulf of Tonkin. The strongest wind near the center of the typhoon was level 8 (62-74 km/h), gusting to level 10.
In the next 24 hours, the typhoon will mainly move northwest at a speed of about 10 km/h and may strengthen further.
By 7 AM on October 20, Typhoon No. 5 will be over the northern area of the Gulf of Tonkin. The wind near the center of the typhoon will increase to levels 8-9, gusting up to level 11.
After that, in the next 48 hours, the typhoon will suddenly turn 180 degrees and move southwest at a speed of 5-10 km/h, weakening into a tropical depression, and eventually into a low-pressure area over the Gulf of Tonkin. Wind speeds will drop below level 6.
Due to the effects of Typhoon No. 5, the Gulf of Tonkin area (including Co To, Bach Long Vi) and the waters of Quang Tri will experience strong winds at levels 6-7, with winds near the typhoon center reaching levels 8-9, gusting to level 11, causing very rough seas.
From the night of October 19, the coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Thai Binh will have gradually increasing winds up to level 6, with gusts of level 7-8.
The waters of the Gulf of Tonkin (including Co To, Bach Long Vi) and Quang Tri's waters will see wave heights of 2.0 - 4.0 meters, increasing to 3.0 - 5.0 meters. All vessels, anchorages, aquaculture areas, and coastal dikes in this area will be affected by strong winds and high waves.
On land, from the night of October 19 to the night of October 21, light to moderate rain is likely in coastal regions, the southern lowlands, and the northeastern area of northern Vietnam, with some areas experiencing heavy rain to very heavy rain.
Due to the typhoon's center being quite far from the mainland, rainfall in central Vietnam has also decreased rapidly today, with many places enjoying sunshine.
In the Central Highlands and Southern regions, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms on the day and night of October 19, with localized heavy rain of 10-30 mm, and some areas exceeding 50 mm (thunderstorms concentrating in the afternoon and evening); sunshine is expected around noon and in the afternoon.
