Have you ever bought a ticket for 0đ while hunting for cheap flight tickets?

Have you ever managed to find a flight ticket for 0đ?

To travel to many places and extend your journey, saving money is essential as we still need to allocate costs for the most important aspects of the trip. Any way to keep expenses low is worth considering; aside from finding a cheap hotel room, scoring a round-trip flight ticket at a low price would be very beneficial, right?

Here, I will share detailed ways to hunt for cheap flight tickets that I have personally experienced.

# Hunting for cheap flight tickets requires “promotion notifications” to be available.

Many people think that hunting for cheap flight tickets means scouring various sites or the airline's website to search. However, that’s not the right approach, as it wastes time and effort without yielding results.

The key here is to have information on available promotions for cheap multi-stop flight tickets. Here are the first steps you need to take to ensure your search for cheap flight tickets starts off successfully:

  1. Like all the airlines' fan pages, such as Vietjet, Jestar, VietnamAirlines, AirAsia, Scoot, … which are quite good low-cost carriers.
  2. Join communities dedicated to hunting for cheap flight tickets.
  3. Visit websites and find where there is a email sign-up box for promotion newsletters, updates, deals... enter your email to receive automatic notifications when there are cheap programs or promotions for 0đ.

# Hunt for cheap tickets using automatic price comparison tools.

There are many airlines with a wide range of prices; some may even be unknown to you, offering surprisingly cheap rates.

If you check the ticket prices and travel dates individually for each airline, it can be very time-consuming and diminish your chances of finding cheap tickets. The solution is to use prior flight price checking tools to more easily select travel dates and know which days have the best prices quickly. Price comparison tools aggregate information from all airlines and routes, providing detailed flight information which saves us tons of time.

Some tools you can use to check and hunt for cheap tickets:
Some tools from Vietnam, mostly online ticketing companies:
Directly visit the airline’s homepage:

# Sign up for the promotional newsletters of low-cost airlines.

When you visit an airline's website: VietjetAir, AirAsia, JetstarAirline, Scoot, Jetstar... there is always an option to leave your email to receive promotional information. When there are offers, news about new routes, discounts, or membership, the airline will send updates to your email, which could happen weekly or when a promo is launched.

This way, you won't have to manually check the websites frequently anymore; you will receive automatic updates, making you a seasoned pro in the “hunt for cheap flight tickets.”

# Join the membership programs of airlines to earn and redeem points.

All airlines have membership programs allowing you to earn points for future flights. When you accumulate enough points, you can convert them for free flights.

Registering for an airline member account is quite simple; the long-term task is to accumulate points in your member card.
  • AirAsia has the BIG point redemption program and AirAsia Asean Pass.
  • VietnamAirlines offers the LotusMiles program.
You will accumulate points each time you purchase flight tickets or book hotel rooms with services linked to this membership program. After amassing enough points, you'll be able to redeem those rewards for equivalent flights.

# Be prepared each time for the hunt for cheap flight tickets.

When the time comes to hunt for free tickets or tickets at 99k or 199k, you need to be sitting in front of your computer exactly when the promo tickets go live to snag them.

So, you should prepare the following:
  • A smoothly operating computer or laptop.
  • A good-speed internet connection; you can also sit at a café – they often have strong networks.
  • An email account ready to receive tickets.
  • Ensure your international VISA card has sufficient balance and is active.
Note: You need to check the promotion time frame of the airline – usually, the promotion sale date means you'd be flying a few months later. So make sure to review your calendar and planned days off to select the appropriate travel date; this step can be time-consuming since many promos might not align with your desired travel dates. To make your flight ticket hunting easier, consider having around three potential travel periods in mind to check for tickets quickly.

Tips 01: Copy your information such as Name, Address, Phone, VISA card number, so that when you reach the information entry step, you can simply paste it.

Tips 02: During heavy traffic, if you access and face website congestion due to overload, try accessing via mobile – mobile access is often optimized for easier access.

# Smart ticket hunting: Eliminate unnecessary add-on services.

Typically, you might find ticket prices listed as 0 đồng, 100k, or 299k, but that’s just the fare. Additionally, there will be required fees:

  • Airport screening fees (security checks, ground services).
  • Airport management fees (essentially for cleanliness, passenger services, and transport to the aircraft).
Depending on the airline and airport, these fees may vary – you will see them when you reach the payment section. Domestic flight fees are relatively low, but international flight fees are higher.

I mention these fees for your understanding as these are add-on services that airlines usually auto-select for your ticket, and you need to remove them from your ticket:
  • Seat selection fees – you only need to buy the ticket; when you check in, airline staff will assign you a seat based on your arrival time, so there's no need to pay for advance seat selection.
  • In-flight meal – For short flights, in-flight meals usually aren't necessary; I once flew from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City and barely finished my meal before landing.
  • Travel insurance – this is optional; if you don't wish to buy insurance, just skip it.
  • Donations to charity – I encountered this when I flew with Cebu Pacific to the Philippines, and I opted out.
  • Checked baggage – some airlines will automatically set your fare with a checked baggage allowance of 15kg or 20kg already included, so be sure to select 0kg.
Alright. These points should help you score the best deals possible. I wish you success in hunting for cheap flight tickets, and don't forget to share your experiences and ticket-hunting tips in the comments below!
