According to the staff working at the cable car station on the top of Fansipan (Lao Cai) – known as the roof of Indochina, with an altitude of 3,143m above sea level, this morning (November 20), the temperature in the area dropped to 0 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a thin layer of frost.
This is the first frost occurrence at the top of Fansipan in the winter-spring season of 2023-2024.

The Lao Cai Meteorological and Hydrological Station reported that currently, the cold air is stable, the Hoang Lien Son mountain range has sunshine during the day, and at night it is cold and clear, leading to high ground radiation, which makes frost easy to form.
Frost forms under conditions of cold, dry weather and clear skies. When the temperature drops below 0 degrees Celsius, water droplets in the air cool and condense, and when they fall, they turn into ice particles.
When the sun rises, the frost layer will gradually dissolve.
Frost is a hazardous weather phenomenon, causing damage to crops and livestock due to hindering their growth and development. In the high regions of Lao Cai province, frost typically occurs during the winter months, especially from November to February of the following year.
