In two months, it's Tết Nguyên Đán, but at Quảng An flower market, Lạc Long Quân street (Hanoi), peach blossoms have already been sold out of season, and ornamental grapefruit prices range in the tens of millions of VND, catering to the early Tết celebration demand of the people.
Today (December 12), with two months to go until Tết Nguyên Đán, according to PV's observations, at Quảng An flower market (Tây Hồ district, Hanoi), some vendors have displayed beautiful blooming peach branches to serve the early Tết celebration needs of the residents. Meanwhile, the peach groves in Nhật Tân have just begun the leaf thinning season.
One vendor said, “The peaches sold here are not from Nhật Tân but are purchased from Bắc Giang. This type of peach that blooms at this time is called out-of-season peach. Out-of-season peaches do not bloom as large and beautiful as in-season peaches, but they sell at a high price, currently featuring pale pink and dark pink varieties.”
The early blooming peach branches are displayed right at the market entrance, close to the road, attracting the attention of passersby, many of whom stopped to inquire about purchasing. “Seeing the vendors selling peach branches, my whole family stopped to admire and bought a few branches to celebrate early Tết,” said Trương Thị Bảy (from Bắc Giang).
Ms. Bảy mentioned that she bought 3 pale peach branches for 600,000 VND, while a small dark pink branch cost 100,000 VND. “Although the price is higher than in the main season, being able to enjoy the early blooming peach flowers and feeling the Tết atmosphere is very enjoyable,” added Ms. Bích.
Mrs. Đỗ Thị Linh, a peach flower vendor, noted that she has been selling peach flowers for a few days now, and the quantity of out-of-season peaches is quite limited, thus the price is usually double that of the main season.
Ms. Linh (on Lạc Long Quân street) shared: “I went to Quảng Bá market to buy flowers for the first day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar, saw the peach flowers and purchased two branches for 400,000 VND."
The peach branches have brought the early Tết atmosphere into people's homes. Additionally, many believe that placing a peach branch in the house will bring good fortune.
On Lạc Long Quân street (Tây Hồ district), a garden has displayed beautiful ornamental grapefruit trees, catering to the early Tết celebration demand of city residents.
Mr. Nguyễn Kim Thắng, the owner of Kim Thắng garden (Hoài Đức district), stated that he has been selling grapefruit here for a few days.
To have a beautiful batch of ornamental grapefruit, Mr. Thắng spends 3-4 years caring for them through many different stages. Prices range from several million to tens of millions of VND per tree depending on size, shape, and quantity of fruit...
The most notable are a pair of ornamental grapefruit pots priced at 120 million VND; these grapefruit trees are between 35-40 years old and are placed in very beautiful pots. The pot alone costs several million VND.
Each tree has around 100 fruits, and these grapefruit trees come from the Diễn variety.
The characteristic of ornamental grapefruit is that many fruits must be grafted onto the tree, as the real fruits on the tree are few, usually only accounting for 20-30%, while the rest are grafted fruits.
Smaller trees are priced a few million VND. According to Mr. Thắng, several regular customers have come to admire them but have not yet purchased; most are companies buying ornamental grapefruit for placement in their lobby to welcome the early Tết atmosphere.
