Then Pả, located at the foot of the Lũng Cú flagpole, still retains many traditional features of the H'Mong people such as their way of life and the earth-walled houses with yin-yang roofs.

The Then Pả village belongs to Lũng Cú commune, Đồng Văn district, located at the foot of Rồng mountain, where the Lũng Cú flagpole is considered the northernmost point of Vietnam. At the foot of Rồng mountain, there are two freshwater lakes known by locals as "Mắt Rồng" which never run dry all year round. The lake on the left lies near the Lô Lô Chải village, and the one on the right is close to the Then Pả village.

Located about 26 km from Đồng Văn town, Then Pả still preserves many long-standing cultural traditions of the H'Mong ethnic group.
Notably, in a small hamlet of the village, there are 10 households that are siblings in the large family of the Vàng clan, who have lived here for over 100 years.

Loving the majestic scenery and peaceful life of the people in the northernmost area, Nguyễn Sỹ Đức (Bắc Ninh) has come to Hà Giang to live and work for 4 years now.
Visiting Then Pả on October 26, what impressed Đức was the serene scenery that embodies the traditions of the small village. The houses are all earth-walled with yin-yang roofs. The locals wear traditional clothing daily for work and daily activities.

In the early morning, the village is cloaked in a misty layer. "The people are awakened by the sunlight and the crowing of roosters announcing a new day instead of the honks of busy traffic as in the city," Đức said.
At the entrance to the village, there are two rows of ancient sa mộc trees, hundreds of years old. The sa mộc tree is a woody plant with needle-like leaves, straight conical trunks, and horizontal branches that grow in layers. They are also a symbolic tree of the Đồng Văn stone plateau (Hà Giang) due to their resilience.

Then Pả possesses its own beauty in every season of the year. In spring, the pink blossoms of peach flowers and the white blossoms of pear cover the mountainsides, village paths, and locals' gardens with bright hues. Summer is the season for lush green corn fields, with a view of the crystal-clear Mắt Rồng lake.
In autumn, the terraced fields of ripe rice create a poetic landscape of golden hues. Entering winter, the village is engulfed in fog in the early mornings.

In the past, the lives of the Then Pả people revolved around farming, animal husbandry, and cultivation.
In 2021, recognizing the tourism potential of the village, anh Vũ Gia Đại, from Thái Nguyên who has been in tourism in Hà Giang since 2008, invested in building several tourism services in Then Pả.
The traditional earth-walled houses of the locals have been renovated in the old architectural style, combining as homestays for tourists. Additionally, he has opened a restaurant serving local specialties such as thắng cố, black chicken hotpot, and mèn mén.

Anh Đại hopes to convey the beauty of nature, people, and the traditional culture of the H'Mong ethnic group in the northernmost region to visitors.
"The slow and peaceful pace of life of the people in the village is a simple way for tourists to live slowly and enjoy life," anh Đại said.

Currently, tourists visiting Then Pả can stay in homestay rooms in local households with prices ranging from 150,000 to 180,000 VND per night.
In the village, there are locals offering services to take visitors to tourist spots such as the Lũng Cú flagpole, the actual northernmost point, or other pristine villages and hamlets.

While located near the Lũng Cú flagpole, Then Pả is still not widely known among tourists compared to Lô Lô Chải, even though the number of visitors "has started to improve," anh Đại shared.
After spending a day here, Đức plans to return to Then Pả during the pear blossom season (around March of the lunar calendar). Đức believes that the houses with tiled roofs, the earth walls tinted with time, and the fresh air here are always suitable for resting at any time of the year.

The village is located right at the foot of the Lũng Cú flagpole, convenient for tourists to experience watching the sunrise at the northernmost point of the country.
Standing on the top of Rồng mountain looking out into the distance, visitors can admire the entire scenery of the Thèn Ván valley on the left and the upstream of the Nho Quế river on the right.
