The Ngũ Chỉ Sơn scenic area is hiring a person to impersonate the Monkey King with a salary of nearly 850 USD a month just to stand still for tourists to feed.
The Ngũ Chỉ Sơn scenic area in Hà Bắc province has attracted international tourists by announcing the recruitment of staff to impersonate the Monkey King and eat bananas fed by customers.
Journey to the West is a famous work from China about the journey of Master Xuánzàng and his five disciples to the West for Buddhist scriptures. The Monkey King, the greatest disciple of Xuánzàng, was previously imprisoned by the Buddha at the foot of the Ngũ Hành Sơn Mountain for his mistakes.

The scenic area in Hà Bắc has leveraged this classic element to attract visitors. The job of the staff member is to daily wear the mask and costume of the Monkey King and then hide in a cave at the foot of the mountain, popping their head out. Young visitors who come here will buy bananas, candies, and fruits to feed the impersonated Monkey King. Staff are not required to eat all the food brought by customers, and they often take the fruits back to share with their colleagues. The company has also installed an electric heater inside the cave in case of cold weather.
The salary received is more than 840 USD a month. The job does not require any qualifications or experience, just "a passion for the character of the Monkey King and acting talent, being cheerful to interact well with tourists." There are two staff members taking turns impersonating the Monkey King, and the scenic area is hiring a third person.

One of the two working staff said he "really liked impersonating the character of the Monkey King when he was young." He hopes that by impersonating this character, he can bring joy to visitors.
"A wonderful job," "Just eating and still getting paid. Truly a light job with high pay in legend" are some comments that people have left on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
