The cold air mass has quickly moved down to the northern region, and the first impacts have already been felt.

The influence of the strong cold air mass from the southern edge, some places in the North have begun to have rain, with some areas experiencing heavy rain.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (November 12), the cold air mass in the North is moving down to our country very quickly.

Due to the influence of the strong cold air, in the past 6 hours (from 1-7 am on November 12), in the provinces of Ha Giang and Yen Bai, there has been moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain recorded in some places such as: Viet Vinh 142.4mm, Tan Lap 2 104.4mm (Ha Giang); Khanh Thien 52.2mm (Yen Bai).

In the next 6 hours, the areas of Ha Giang and Yen Bai provinces will continue to experience rain, with accumulated rainfall generally ranging from 30-50mm, with some places exceeding 70mm.

Also in the next 6 hours, there is a high risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams, as well as landslides on slopes in Ha Giang and Yen Bai provinces, especially in the districts: Luc Yen (Yen Bai); Bac Quang, Quang Binh, Vi Xuyen, Ha Giang City (Ha Giang).

Starting from this afternoon, November 12, this cold air mass will affect the northeastern region, and from tonight, it will impact the northwestern and north-central regions, causing a large rain event in the Central region.

Specifically: From afternoon on November 12 to November 13, in the northern areas, there will be scattered rain and thunderstorms, locally moderate to heavy rain with rainfall of 15-30mm/24h, and some places exceeding 50mm/24h.


From the evening of November 12 to the evening of November 13, areas from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An will have moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 50-100mm, and some places exceeding 150mm.

From the evening of November 12 to the night of November 13, in Ha Tinh area, there will be moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 80-150mm, and some places exceeding 200mm.

From near dawn on November 13 to the night of November 13, in areas from Quang Binh to Phu Yen, there will be moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 70-120mm, and some places exceeding 170mm.

Looking further ahead, the meteorological agency stated that on November 14, the southern Ha Tinh area will continue to have moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places, with common rainfall of 20-50mm, and some places exceeding 70mm. Rainfall will decrease from the night of November 14.

From November 14 to November 17, in areas from Quang Binh to Phu Yen, there will be moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places, with common rainfall from 200-400mm, and some places exceeding 600mm.

From November 13 to November 18, there is a possibility of a flood wave on rivers from Quang Binh to Phu Yen. In this flood wave, the flood peak levels on rivers in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, and northern Phu Yen will be at levels BĐ1-BĐ2, with some rivers exceeding BĐ2; rivers from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai will be at levels BĐ2-BĐ3, with some rivers exceeding BĐ3.

There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and localized flooding in low-lying areas near rivers and urban areas in the provinces from Quang Binh to Phu Yen.

Regarding temperature, starting from the night of November 12, the North will experience cold weather, with mountainous regions experiencing severe cold in some places. In this cold air wave, the lowest temperature in the North and North Central regions generally ranges from 15-18 degrees Celsius, while the mountainous areas will have common temperatures of 12-15 degrees Celsius, and some high mountainous areas may drop below 11 degrees Celsius.
