Tens of thousands of people head to Bac Ninh to attend the Lim Festival 2024.

On February 21 and 22 (the 12th and 13th of the Lunar January), tens of thousands of locals and tourists flocked to Bac Ninh to celebrate the Lim Festival at the beginning of spring.

On the morning of February 22 (the 13th of the Lunar January), tens of thousands of tourists from afar converged at the center of the festival at Hong Van Mountain (Lim Town). The Lim Festival is for the people of the ancient villages surrounding Lim Mountain and the Tieu Tương River (Tien Du District). The Lim Festival occurs annually to preserve, protect, and promote traditional cultural values. A distinctive cultural feature of the Lim Festival is the sweet, lyrical melodies of Quan họ singing, like the lines "in the land of Quan họ, even a ray of sunshine carries a folk tune." On normal days, people work hard planting and plowing, but during the spring, they transform into Lien anh and Lien chi singing deeply emotional Quan họ songs. Lien anh and Lien chi sing Quan họ on a dragon boat. Participating in the Lim Festival at the beginning of spring, tourists can also wear traditional attire such as "mớ bảy mớ ba," "ba tầm" hats, "quai thao," "yếm lụa sồi," "ô lục soạn," "khăn đóng," "áo cặp the hoa gấm" to fully experience the traditional culture of Kinh Bac. “Going to celebrate the Lim Festival, my friends and I encouraged each other to wear ancient attire because that’s how we truly feel the spirit of the Lim Festival,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong (Hanoi). “This betel is a betel of intention, a betel of love - betel of the phoenix, betel of the pair, betel of us.” The culture of inviting betel - an ancient cultural aspect of the Vietnamese people at the Lim Festival preserves an elegant and artistic spirit, fascinating tourists even more. The meticulously prepared betel offerings through refined invitations express the hospitality and rich emotions of the Quan họ people toward visitors. At the Lim Festival, people and tourists do not just immerse themselves in the atmosphere of poetry and music but also experience the unique festival games of the Quan họ people such as cockfighting, swinging, and pot smashing... Among them, the human chess game - a clever intellectual game where students dress as chess pieces, attracts many tourists. The Lim Festival in Bac Ninh is an opportunity for locals to express their respect and gratitude to cultural and historical figures; it widely promotes the melodies of Quan họ and the beauty of Bac Ninh to numerous tourists both domestically and internationally. The Lim Festival in 2024 is also the first year to feature an exhibition area showcasing famous OCOP products from Bac Ninh province. Traditional cakes such as Bánh phu thê Đình Bảng, bánh tẻ from Làng Chờ, nem Bùi... are present at the Lim Festival, contributing to bringing the culinary culture of Bac Ninh closer to the people and tourists.
