According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, since 2019, Hanoi has implemented a smoke-free tourism model at 30 tourist sites and historical-cultural relics in Hoan Kiem District. For example, Ngoc Son Temple, Ba Kieu Temple, Quan Su Pagoda, Ba Da Pagoda, the National History Museum, the Women's Museum, the National Library, the Grand Theater, the Cathedral, Ham Long Church, Hoa Lo Prison, Thang Long Water Puppet Theater, Workers' Cinema… These destinations attract a large number of tourists, leaving a mark of a green, clean, beautiful, friendly, and civilized Hanoi.
However, according to Ms. Dang Huong Giang - Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the development of green tourist destinations still faces many challenges due to the low awareness of tourism businesses and the community in environmental, landscape, and natural protection.
In addition, infrastructure and supporting facilities at many agricultural ecological tourism sites have not been completed. Many green, agricultural, and rural tourist sites in Hanoi face difficulties in connecting with travel agencies to finalize and build products as well as attract tourists.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism also requires travel agencies and destinations to pay attention to environmental factors, ensure health safety, and develop sustainably in the process of product construction. From there, organize training classes to promote many green tourism models, helping local people to preserve their culture and participate with the government in creating unique experiential tourism products for the capital.
At the seminar on main solutions to accelerate recovery and effectively and sustainably develop tourism in September 2023, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - suggested that in the upcoming period, Hanoi tourism needs to restructure the sector towards professionalism, modernization, quality, and sustainability.
Hanoi needs to build and implement a Green Tourism Action Program for the period 2023 - 2025, aimed at a green, clean, beautiful, civilized, and friendly tourist destination, creating favorable conditions to attract international tourists to Vietnam. Additionally, the tourism industry of the capital needs to enhance investment in developing focused and prioritized tourism products. At the same time, focus on attracting investment for new tourism products that match the tastes of tourists in the post-COVID-19 period.
