This new type of pizza combines shredded snake meat, black mushrooms, and sausage – all of which are essential ingredients of the authentic snake soup from Hong Kong. Instead of the usual tomato sauce, these snake pizzas will be served with a unique abalone sauce.
“Snake meat becomes richer when combined with cheese and diced chicken. Snake pizza marks a new breakthrough as it brings a uniquely different flavor while being good for health,” Pizza Hut Hong Kong emphasized, adding that according to traditional Chinese medicine, snake meat “can improve blood circulation.”

The American pizza chain has partnered with Ser Wong Fun – a restaurant specializing in snake dishes in Hong Kong, which has been open since 1895, to launch this combined product.
Karen Chan, general director of Pizza Hut Hong Kong and Macau (China), stated that the snake pizza uses Chinese rat snake, blue krait, and white-striped snakes.
People in Hong Kong and other southern provinces of China are very fond of snake soup, especially when the weather gets colder. According to a Cantonese proverb, the best time to enjoy snake dishes is “when the autumn wind starts to blow” – at this time, snakes have been fattened up and are preparing for winter hibernation. Many believe that snake meat has healing properties, improves skin condition, and keeps the body warm.
Rachel Wong, a Hong Kong diner who is very fond of snake soup, expressed excitement about this new pizza: “It looks a bit like chicken, has a similar flavor to fish and some other seafood. Snake pizza is a protein-rich dish for winter.”
However, Mabel Sieh, a pizza "fanatic" in Hong Kong, said: “I think this dish is really scary. Snake is not a common food, especially in the West.”
Moreover, other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Vietnam and Thailand, also have a rich culinary culture with various types of snakes raised for food.
Snake Pizza will only be served until November 22. It is not only a unique culinary experience; snake meat is said to have medicinal properties such as improving skin and keeping the body warm by enhancing blood circulation.
This is not the first time there has been pizza using local specialties as a way to honor traditional culinary culture. Previously, Pizza Hut in Taiwan (China) launched durian, pig's blood cake, and century egg pizzas.
