The road leading to Pandawa Beach in Bali seems to divide the entire plateau, sparking a heated debate online about the practicality of the project and its impact on local wildlife.
With its fine white sand and crystal-clear water, Pandawa Beach has long been one of the most picturesque coastal destinations in Bali. However, the road carved into the limestone cliffs that separates the beach from the rest of the island has actually propelled it to the top of the island's tourist spots. Until just a decade ago, Pandawa Beach was only known to locals, as the limestone cliffs were difficult for foreigners to traverse. However, everything changed in 2012 when a road leading down to the beach was created by cutting through the cliffs. Today, that road has somewhat become a tourist attraction but is also the subject of a heated debate.

From the moment the road to Pandawa Beach was inaugurated, it immediately transformed this remote destination into a major tourist hotspot. With vertical cliffs on either side, the road has become a favorite among Instagram users searching for eye-catching photos.
The construction of the Pandawa Coastal Road began in 2011 when bulldozers and excavators started to carve into the limestone landscape. Funded by both the Indonesian government and private investors, it was inaugurated just two years later and immediately impressed both tourists and locals alike.

Images and videos of the road have recently gone viral on Reddit, garnering millions of views. Interestingly, while some admire the coastal road, others argue that it could be developed recklessly as it completely obstructs wildlife movement across the limestone plateau.

“And they have cut the territory of many animal species in half with no way for them to cross, ridiculous,” one Reddit user retorted.
But project supporters argue that there are not many animals left in the area, so the road does not actually pose a problem for anyone.“A bridge is needed for the animals,” another user posted.
